wk. 10 bills @ oilers the bills got back on track as they sweep the division rivalry with the oilers as the hard-hitting sure-handed bills' defense sealed this one up in a battle of the RBs.
bills receive the opener. kelly starts off a li'l shaky by first being blindsided by a charging eddie anderson, and then getting picked off by anderson the very next play. bills's first drive fails to impress in any sense of the word.
oilers come out running, of course. they get within 10 yards when rookie brad johnson throws up a lofter, which lemuel stinson would come down with in the endzone. 500 anyone?
from the 20 the bills have new life. 3rd and long when kelly comes up with a huge CC to easy ed. with 4th and short ickey would get the ball and tumble for a first to keep the drive alive, which would ultimately lead to a big run by bailey for the TD. 7-0 bills
the oilermen wasted no time tying up the score with a timed JJ to carter and a few good runs from woody, who would stick the ball in the endzone. literally, he just jammed it right down there...quite intimidating. 7-7
unfortunately, the impressive display of force from woodside just made the bills mad. bailey would break off another big run to set up a dump pass to bailey for the score. 14-7 bills
with :30 left in the half, johnson would errantly throw to sharpe for an incompletion.
oilers with new life in the 2nd half take the ball the purpose. the purpose evidently was to fumble, however, into the hands of a bill. with only a few yards to go, bailey would find the open door to the endzone. 21-7 bills
hope was not lost, yet. until brad johnson tried to pass again. mcpick caught the greasy nugget over a "good" anthony carter to take over at the 50.
bills would eventually capitalize on the TO with a bailey run. 28-7 bills
last time the bills got ahead in their matchup with the oilers, they elected to drop back into deep-ball coverage and let the run go through. not today. maybe one pass play was picked. however, when bradley tried to pass again it found its way into the hands of steve atwater.
bills quickly capitalize and the score became 35-7 bills.
woodside would run out the rest of the time actually finding about 35-40 more yards on the very last play of the game.
GG, lefty. may the tecmo gods be with you someday.
