The 1993 WTF College Draft: Available Running Backs
Here's your 1993 RB Draft Class!!! Check out that Bettis line...60% chance of an improved Okoye lookin' pretty nice! All guys will have RP of 69 except Bettis will have 75 if he rolls his 60% line. Name: Garrison Hearst Position: RB College: Georgia Outlook: Hearst follows in a long line of quality running backs from Georgia, such as the Steelers' Herschel Walker and the Dolphins' Mike Rozier. Hearst has a chance to outperform either one of them in the WTF. His top-end speed is better than anyone's in the draft, but he is a little bit small in stature and some are concerned about his ability to stay healthy. This could cause Hearst's draft stock to take a slight tumble. Still, he should go somewhere toward the middle of the first round. It's impossible to have a conversation about Bettis without invoking the name of Green Bay Packers RB Honky Okoye. Bettis is a little bit more interesting than Okoye in that some believe that if he loses some weight he could have top flight speed and could end up more of a Neal Anderson-type of back. And no doubt, Bettis has better ability to catch the ball out of the backfield than the stone-handed Okoye. Even in the worst case scenario for Bettis, he'd be among the top fullbacks in the game. It is difficult to go wrong with picking this guy, and he should go in the top 10. He doesn't have outstanding breakaway speed but is an excellent between-the-tackles kind of runner who should have a productive career. Let it be said, however, that many question Smith's passion for football. This guy was a 4.0 pre-med major at Ohio State and has intimated that at some point he may give up the game for medicine. For now, Smith would be a wise first-round selection for a team in need of a young runner. RS MS HP BC RC % 38 50 38 50 38 60 38 56 44 50 44 20 38 44 31 50 31 20 Tecmo Comparison: Johnny Johnson Name: Natrone Means Position: RB College: North Carolina Outlook: There's no disputing that Natrone Means Business. This guy is a tough grinder of a runner who has a penchant for getting the extra yard when it's needed. For some teams, Means could be a feature back and could be an excellent project. On other teams, he'd make an excellent backup or could be converted to a fullback. Regardless, Means should be able to step in and help whatever team drafts him. RS MS HP BC RC % 38 44 50 50 31 60 44 50 56 50 38 20 38 38 44 50 25 20 Tecmo Comparison: Rueben Mayes Name: Glyn Milburn Position: RB/WR College: Stanford Outlook: Milburn is a "slash" kind of player who could line up at either RB or WR. He has tremendous hands for a running back so there are many who suggest that he'll be a WR in the pro game. His complete lack of power helps support this notion. Milburn is a small, shifty sort of back who was renowned for his special teams play in college. His versatility could send his draft stock flying as high as the 2nd round. RS MS HP BC RC % 38 38 19 50 56 60 38 44 25 50 63 20 38 31 19 50 50 20 Tecmo Comparison: Eric Metcalf Name: Reggie Brooks Position: RB College: Notre Dame Outlook: Brooks has good potential as a backup with an outside chance at being a starter. His durability and speed are questionable, but at least he wasn't run into the ground in Lou Holtz's Notre Dame offense which featured other possible first-round talents in Rick Mirer and Jerome Bettis sharing the load. Brooks would make a fine mid-to-late round selection. RS MS HP BC RC % 38 38 31 50 25 60 38 44 38 50 31 20 38 50 44 50 38 10 31 31 25 50 19 10 Tecmo Comparison: Ken Clark with upside Name: Roosevelt Potts Position: RB College: Louisiana-Monroe Outlook: This small-school stud will have to prove a lot at the scouting combines in order to get selected in this draft. There are simply much better options out there than Potts. RS MS HP BC RC % 38 31 38 50 31 80 44 25 31 50 25 10 38 38 44 50 38 10 Tecmo Comparison: Anthony Toney Name: Terry Kirby Position: RB College: Virginia Outlook: Kirby is SLOOOOW but is an excellent 3rd down back who can convert screen passes into key first down conversions. He will instantly become one of the top pass-catching RB in the league upon selection. RS MS HP BC RC % 38 31 44 75 63 60 38 38 50 75 56 20 38 25 56 50 50 20 Tecmo Comparison: Keith Byars Name: Ronald Moore Position: RB College: Pittsburg State (Kan.) Outlook: Nothing stands out about Moore, who will be an average backup in the WTF. RS MS HP BC RC % 38 38 31 50 31 50 38 44 38 50 38 25 38 31 25 50 25 25 Tecmo Comparison: Robert Drummond Name: Lorenzo Neal Position: RB College: Fresno State Outlook: Neal is the best fullback to come along in a while. He's slow, but is a bruiser of a back who holds on to the ball and can make receptions out of the backfield. Neal would also make an excellent tight end/H-back in certain offenses. He's extremely durable and should have a long and productive career for whatever team drafts him. RS MS HP BC RC % 44 31 94 81 50 80 44 25 88 75 44 20 Tecmo Comparison: Tom Rathman Name: Derek Brown Position: RB College: Nebraska Outlook: There's nothing flashy or noteworthy about Derek Brown. He could be drafted as either a running back or a backup WR, but will have a hard time getting onto the field. Expect some team to take a flier on Brown with their final draft selection to fill a roster hole. RS MS HP BC RC % 38 31 31 50 44 60 38 38 38 50 50 20 31 25 25 50 38 20 Tecmo Comparison: Anthony Johnson Name: Adrian Murrell Position: RB College: West Virginia Outlook: This West Virginia Mountaineer product should have a very productive career as a backup and in the right situation could be a starter. He's quite reminiscent of last year's Seahawk 2nd rounder Amp Lee in that he's not too fast but does well catching the ball out of the backfield in the receiving game. RS MS HP BC RC % 38 44 38 50 50 50 38 50 44 50 50 30 38 38 31 50 44 20 Tecmo Comparison: Gary Anderson Name: Richie Anderson Position: RB College: Penn State Outlook: Slow as molasses but a fine receiver out of the backfield, Anderson is reminding scouts of Cleveland Browns TE John L. Williams. This is another guy who could face a conversion to receiver, but is probably not fast enough to be too productive at that position. RS MS HP BC RC % 38 31 56 50 56 60 38 25 50 50 50 30 44 38 63 50 63 10 Tecmo Comparison: John L. Williams Name: Frank Wycheck Position: RB/TE College: Maryland Outlook: Wycheck is an excellent candidate to move from RB to the tight end position, as his blocking is not a liability and he would instantly become an above-average TE in the WTF. Some teams may opt to utilize Wycheck as more of a fullback. He should be a helpful addition to some team in need of a little power, speed, and catching at either position. RS MS HP BC RC % 38 38 44 63 50 60 38 44 50 63 56 30 31 31 38 50 44 10 Name: Greg Robinson Position: RB College: USC Outlook: The outlook on Robinson in terms of his being drafted is grim. He isn't fast, can't block, and has trouble catching the ball out of the backfield. Pass on Robinson unless entirely desperate. RS MS HP BC RC % 31 31 31 50 25 80 31 25 25 50 19 10 38 38 38 50 31 10
