Thanks go to Opus for first half of these DB bios (Carter thru Evans). I handled the others. A decent albeit unspectular crop here with a few studs sprinkled in... RS/RP will go as follows for DBs...in keeping with original ROM traditions... If MS is 25, 31, 38, or 44, RS/RP will be 25/31 If MS is 50, RS/RP will be 31/38 If MS is 56, RS/RP will be 38/44 If MS is 63, RS/RP will be 38/50 If MS is 69 or 75, RS/RP will be 44/56 Quickness will be set at 50 for all defensive players, as it's been deemed to be a worthless statistic. This does it for the bios and ratings, so be ready to start drafting soon!!! Name: Tom Carter Position: DB College: Notre Dame Outlook: Tom is one of the premier DBs in this years draft. A good combo of speed and intercepting ability make him a solid 1st round selection. His talent level isnt amazing, but he is an all around solid player who should stick around the WTF for quite some time. He was the backbone of a great Colorado defense but scouts question if his college play will translate to the next level. Ronnie is best remembered for blocking an extra point in the 91 orange bowl that helped Colorado win a share of the national title. Should be a serviceable player in the WTF. MS HP INT % 50 44 50 70 56 50 56 20 44 38 44 10 Tecmo Comparison: Maurice Hurst Name: Tyrone Hughes Position: DB College: Nebraska Outlook: Tyrone isnt a great DB, but he can hit with the best of them. MS HP INT % 38 50 38 80 44 56 44 15 31 44 31 5 Tecmo Comparison: Chuck Cecil Name: Doug Evans Position: DB College: Louisiana Tech Outlook: Doug has the talent to be a late 1st/early 2nd round selection. He will help out any team in need of a DB. MS HP INT % 56 50 56 60 63 56 63 20 50 44 50 15 44 38 44 5 Tecmo Comparison: Louis Oliver Name: Willie Williams Position: DB College: Western Carolina Outlook: Williams thrived as a college player for the Western Carolina Catamounts and scouts are raving over his talent, comparing him to former Pittsburgh Steeler DB Ronnie Lippett, who was among the league's leading interceptors in 1991. The odds are pretty good that Williams will pan out and become an above-average WTF cornerback. MS HP INT % 56 44 63 60 63 50 69 15 50 38 56 20 44 31 50 5 Tecmo Comparison: Ronnie Lippett Name: Darnell Walker Position: DB College: Oklahoma Outlook: This Sooner product comes from one of most storied programs in NCAA history and has a reputation as a highly coachable player who stands a good chance at stepping in and starting for many WTF clubs. Walker would make a fine 4th round selection. MS HP INT % 50 38 50 70 44 31 44 20 56 44 56 10 Tecmo Comparison: Ray Crockett Name: Dave Thomas Position: DB College: Tennessee Outlook: Dave Thomas, not to be confused with the same-named fast-food magnate, comes to the WTF from the University of Tennessee. He isn't terribly fast, nor does he often pull down interceptions, but could be a valuable role player on a contending club. One word of caution about Thomas is that he's a little old for a rookie, 25 to be exact, so it may not be wise to spend an early pick on him. MS HP INT % 44 50 44 70 50 56 50 15 38 44 38 15 Tecmo Comparison: Alvin Walton Name: Blaine Bishop Position: DB College: Ball State Outlook: Indiana native Blaine Bishop comes to the league as a great tackler and premier run-stuffer out of the defensive backfield. He's fast and has a strong tendency to flock to the ball and is also good at getting pressure on the QB on safety blitzes. Bishop's poor ball skills will probably see him drop into at least the second round of the draft. If he works on his coverage skills Bishop should be an all-pro caliber defensive back. MS HP INT % 63 63 44 60 69 69 50 25 56 56 38 10 50 50 31 5 Tecmo Comparison: Carl Lee Name: Patrick Bates Position: DB College: Texas A&M Outlook: Bates is speedy and a good athlete but some question his work ethic and passion for the game. Still, a few scouts are saying that Bates could be a star in the mold of Patriot stud Darrell Green with a bit of seasoning. MS HP INT % 56 19 31 80 50 19 25 10 63 25 38 5 69 31 44 5 Tecmo Comparison: Steve Atwater minus the HP Name: Ray Buchanan Position: DB College: Louisville Outlook: Buchanan is a fantastic athlete with a nose for the football. Chances are very likely that Buchanan will be a star player for years to come for whatever team drafts him--he's definitely the kind of player to build a team around and could wind up as a top 5 draft selection. He could even go #1 overall. As a Stanford grad, he's an intelligent, coachable student of the game who some are comparing to Bengal star David Fulcher or Steeler star Rod Woodson. While Lynch does not possess the speed of those players, some would suggest that his ceiling is higher and his power is virtually unrivaled. A star in the making. MS HP INT % 38 31 38 80 31 25 31 15 44 38 44 5 Tecmo Comparison: James Hasty Name: Brock Marion Position: DB College: Nevada Outlook: Marion is a ball-hawking safety who struggles mightily in man coverage. When allowed to roam the field freely against poor quarterbacks, Marion nearly always makes the opposition pay and can often pull down interceptions. His speed (or lack thereof) should see Marion tumble into the 2nd round, where some team will be lucky to snag him. He isn't the most talented player in the draft but he should be a starter for whichever team drafts him when rosters are finalized in August. MS HP INT % 50 50 50 60 44 44 44 30 56 56 56 10 Tecmo Comparison: Ray Horton Name: Roger Harper Position: DB College: Ohio State Outlook: Harper played well in the Horseshoe for Ohio State the past four seasons, but lacks the speed to match up with the wide receivers in the pro game. He'll struggle to earn a roster spot. He'll likely face practice squad purgatory if drafted. Could be a decent stopgap for a couple of seasons--he's not entirely clueless out there and has shown a tendency to reel in the occasional interception.
