Name: Levon Kirkland Position: LB College: Clemson Outlook: Kirkland is a premier defender with Singletary-like upside who should be one of the league’s best linebackers for years to come. Huge for a linebacker, Kirkland’s 280-pound frame will punish opposing ball carriers and his catlike agility will make opponents think twice when running in his direction. Should be a star. He isn’t going to provide a major upgrade for any team but should be at least an average performer who has pretty good upside. Worth a mid-round gamble. MS HP INT % 44 56 19 60 50 63 19 20 38 50 19 10 31 44 19 10 Tecmo Comparison: Scott Davis Name: Joe Bowden Position: LB College: Oklahoma Outlook: Unlikely to be an impact player in the pro game, Bowden possesses good hitting ability and should find his way onto a team for the upcoming season. MS HP INT % 38 50 13 50 44 56 13 20 31 44 13 30 Tecmo Comparison: Tracy Rocker Name: Elijah Alexander Position: LB College: Kansas State Outlook: The anchor of an up-and-coming Kansas State Wildcat defense, Elijah Alexander is a poised defender who should be good enough to hang in the league for a few seasons. MS HP INT % 38 50 13 50 44 56 13 30 31 44 13 20 Tecmo Comparison: Rickey Jackson Name: Glenn Cadrez Position: LB College: Houston Outlook: Cadrez is a very similar player to Alexander who should provide a minimal upgrade to some team’s linebacking corps, but will probably never reach stardom. MS HP INT % 38 50 13 50 44 56 13 30 31 44 13 20 Tecmo Comparison: Rickey Jackson Name: Eddie Robinson Position: LB College: Alabama State Outlook: Robinson appears to be a pretty safe bet to be a solid contributor to some team’s defense for years to come. It isn’t likely he’ll become a star due to his average speed, but he hits as hard as just about anyone in this crop of linebackers and should sneak his way into the second or third round of the draft. MS HP INT % 44 63 25 60 50 69 31 10 38 56 25 20 31 50 25 10 Tecmo Comparison: Pat Swilling Name: Tracy Scroggins Position: LB College: Tulsa Outlook: The pride of the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes defense this past season, Scroggins is a fast, agile, and powerful sack artist who should thrive as a speed rusher off the edge. One of the best linebackers in the draft. However…be careful with Scroggins. Using him in pass coverage is just about strictly forbidden as he has virtually no ability to intercept opposing passes. MS HP INT % 50 56 6 60 56 63 6 20 44 50 6 10 38 44 6 10 Tecmo Comparison: Huey Richardson Name: Quentin Coryatt Position: LB College: Texas A&M Outlook: Coryatt is among the most talented linebackers in the draft and some think he could eventually work his way into a Dennis Byrd kind of role as an inside pass rushing specialist. It’s not likely he’ll achieve to the same degree as Byrd, but should almost certainly be a worthwhile cog in a defense needing a boost in speed and power. MS HP INT % 38 44 13 80 31 38 13 10 44 50 13 10 Tecmo Comparison: Keith Delong Name: Dwight Hollier Position: LB College: North Carolina Outlook: Hollier possesses the same skill set as Ricardo McDonald and should also sneak his way onto some team for the 1992 season. MS HP INT % 38 44 13 80 31 38 13 10 44 50 13 10 Tecmo Comparison: Keith Delong Name: Robert Jones Position: LB College: East Carolina Outlook: While Jeff Blake was racking up Heisman votes, this man was racking up insane statistics on the defensive side of the ball for the East Carolina Pirates. Jones is a fierce competitor from the middle linebacker position who should wind up with a career similar to that of current LA Raider Chris Spielman. He has a knack for finding the ball carrier and a penchant for laying big hits. He’ll probably find himself on the outside looking in when rosters are posted next season.
