Offensive POTW Season 2: Week 8

Toughest lineup this season imo for POTW.

Berger2313- 11-29-2007

With respect to the other canidates I don't see how this one could be close. Eagles did this against Kid's defense in a crucial game. Throwing and running for 100 yds in the same game AND only throwing 1 incompletion in that same game has to be worth of a player of the week award....

Eagles had a good game but didn't even put up the most yards or TDs from the QB position this week. Eagles also suffers because of his insane talent. Doing this with say Rodney Peete would be much more of an accomplishment, even though it shouldn't be looked on like that. Personally I think Andre Reed should be the winner; almost 250 yards and 3 TDs from the WR position is sick.

I have no respect for Reed's numbers. Anyone can toss blind bombs with Marino all game and some will hit and others won't. Ever hear the one about the blind squirrel? Find me a WR with the same # of yards on 10 catches and I'll be impressed. Until then, color me unimpressed with the douchebaggery of those numbers.

Berger2313- 11-29-2007

I agree w/ Lord here. Not only that but Eagles had more total yards than Reed and he did it by dominating 2 aspects of the game against a very good defense. He had 30 less rushing yds than Emmit from the QB position on the same # of carries, not to mention all his passing yards. Montana had a solid game, but he also threw an INT and only controlled the game from a passing standpoint it seems.... I think this has to be hands down Eagles

I think this has to be hands down Eagles Well maybe if Ghost were dumb enough to put in a reverse or two for Reed he could have dominated at both aspects of the game just like Eagles. It is silly to give Eagles extra credit for gaining yards on the ground. He is an anomaly in the tecmo world and thus total yards is a much better way to compare him to other QBs imo.

Actually Berger, Eagles numbers are 252 total yards and 3 tds. That is not as good as Montana in either category.

Swamp Chicken- 11-30-2007

Reed's numbers were sick for a WR but they were just as Lord said. They also came in a losing effort and were anamolys actually.

The nature of the POTW system(big #s and TDs) inevitably will reward WRs who catch a few long passes(CC/JJ or not). Their numbers might not have been obtained as "skillfully" as other positions like RB/QB but they have the right to there and not have their numbers discredited because of the way they were gained imo. If not this will turn into QB/RB of the week award as most WRs can't gain enough yards through solid tecmo play to really contend with the RBs and QBs.

Swamp Chicken- 11-30-2007

Opus, I may be misunderstanding you but it seems like you are arguing two sides here. First you tell Berger that his QB's stats are not impressive because of QBEagles abilities. Then you say it is ok if you get some long bomb JJ /cc stats and that how you get stats is not important. I may be misinterpreting but it is confusing none the less.

opus- 11-30-2007

I never said that QB Eagles performance was not impressive. Berger routinely complains that Eagles doesn't get the credit he deserves in POTW and I pointed out that it is because Eagles is such a talented player and I think people take that into account when voting. Its like if Keith Woodside and Barry Sanders both had 200 yds rushing and 3 TDs in the same week who would you vote for? Most likely Woodside even though the players had the exact same stats. In my 2nd post I was trying to express my feeling that yards gained from rushing by a QB are the same as yards gained by passing. Its irrelevant imo how you gain yards in tecmo, as long as you actually gain them, but I can see that my tone and poor choice of words would cause one to think I was hating on Eagles' performance.

Berger2313- 11-30-2007

Actually Berger, Eagles numbers are 252 total yards and 3 tds. That is not as good as Montana in either category. Firstly, Montana turned the ball over which Eagles did not do, not to mention he had more incompletions. My point though is that when a player forces a defense to focus and have to stop two different aspects he deserves more credit. If Emmit had run for 144 and had 90 yds recieving I'd no doubt vote for him, but that wasn't the case. When one player dominates a great defenise in more than one way he deserves the player of the week award IMO, it's not like Eagles did this vs a crappy defense. Find me another example where someone had 100 yds in two different categories and didn't win a player of the week (hell, has it happened before in the WTF @ all?) then I'll concede the argument, until then I stand by my statement that someone dominating the game in 2 aspects is more valuable than someone doing it in one way....

LordSummerisle- 11-30-2007

My point though is that when a player forces a defense to focus and have to stop two different aspects he deserves more credit. Find me another player who is 4 notches better than the next best guy in a particular attribute. Oh yeah. There isn't one. Of course Eagles forces a defense to have to stop two different aspects. The guy is hands down the best player on the ROM and should be putting up numbers like this every week. Honestly, in POW voting, if I see Eagles' name on the list, I skip right past him unless the numbers are extraordinarily eyepopping. Admittedly, this week I definitely did give him major consideration.
