NFC Championship: Bengals vs Chargers BENGALS 35, CHARGERS 3
Bengals get some spirited defense and some massive luck en route to ending the Chargers' season in the playoffs for the 3rd straight season.
Chargers start with the ball and drive to midfield but get pushed back on a couple of called plays and have to punt.
Bengals can't do much and are forced to punt themselves.
Chargers drop back to pass and the play is picked. Boomer fumbles and LT picks it up for a TD. 7-0 Bengals.
Chargers put together a nice drive with a quick strike to Willie Gault going for big yardage. Bengals D tightens up and the Chargers are held to a FG. 7-3.
On the kick return, rookie KR/TE Aaron Pierce fumbles, but it's picked up by unheralded lineman Steve Trapilo who takes it down inside the Charger 30. A few Russell runs later and it's 14-3.
Chargers get the ball back with a minute to go in the first half. They hit Gault for a big gainer to around midfield, and drop back to pass for a final JJ attempt. Bengals call the play and the QB fumbles AGAIN, and LT picks it up AGAIN and rumbles 45 yards for the score! 21-3 Bengals. Half.
Bengals receive the ball to start the second half and immediately put in Browning Nagle and Gary Anderson in place of the starters. We didn't want to risk injury in this one. Nagle hooked up with Desmond Howard for a score and ran another one in to set the final margin at 35-3. Old Man Everson Walls grabbed an INT and LT and The Glock came up with sacks.
35-3 final and on to the Super Bowl yet again, 3 years running...
