How the Guaranteed Contracts will work: Final Edition
Here is how the contract situation will work: Each team will receive 6 contracts to use, EVER. Once these 6 contracts expire, they are gone. They will be: One 4-year contract One 3-year contract Four 2-year contracts What the contract will guarantee is that the player cannot age or retire for the length of the contract. The player in question may also not earn performance gains for the length of the contract. A single player may never receive more than one contract. The contracts may be given out at any time. If you want to hold on to your 4-year contract until 2003 to use it then, do so. It's up to you when they are used. That said, you may contract a MAXIMUM of four players for this offseason. You may not use all six contracts right now, and you may have a maximum of four contracted players at any given time. That means that the players chosen were essentially under contract for this past season, and they will have one fewer year remaining on their contract for next season. Keep in mind a couple of things: Players under contract may not receive performance gains, for one. Secondly, you do not HAVE to protect any players this offseason. It's up to you. Just don't complain if they retire on you. I realize some may find this system unfair given what was originally said about guaranteed contracts, but I think for the sake of the league's integrity, this should work well in achieving the aims of the contracts, which is to extend the careers of bonafide original ROM stars who had lengthier-than-average careers. If you don't like this decision on the contracts, I understand...but please try to also understand the motivation behind the decision. Please be ready to name the players who you want contracted for this offseason when it comes time to meet with me to do aging/retirements. Any questions, please ask. Thanks guys.
