Gameplay rule changes for season 2 Do we need to change any rules for gameplay for Season 2?
The one thing I am concerned about is the onside kicks.
I think we should adopt the same rules as other leagues as far as onsides go. You can only onside if trailing in the 4th quarter or trailing by more than 14 points any other time. If you accidentally recover an onside kick at another time, you have to punt it away.
My reasoning here is that the league is based on statistics, and teams should be given a fair opportunity to earn stats. If they only have 40-50 yards to go on every drive, it's difficult to accumulate stats. Drives will be shorter and points will be scored more frequently and QB stats will be inflated. Also, the defenses in this league are getting quite fast, and the incidence of onside recoveries will increase significantly as the defenses get quicker.
I don't see the need for any other rule changes past this, but would be willing to hear everyone's opinion on the above onside kick proposal and other rules you'd like to see implemented.

I think if it accidentally happens play on. I hate to say it even though during my tpc playing days and pratice games if i recovered an accidental kick i would punt it back or if someone did it to me accidentally and i recovered i would run back to 20 to 30 yard line on my side of field.
I just fill this is league play and is the highest of highest competition. That is just my opinion. I will follow what is put in place either way.

The question becomes, what's an accident and what's not? If we say onsiding is not allowed except in these certain circumstances (down 14 anytime, or trailing in 4th), then it becomes clear what constitutes an "accident" (a recovery at any other time would be considered accidental and the rule would require a punt.
In practice games I've played against the CPU, my team often recovers anywhere from 3 to 6 onside kicks in a game. I'm not kidding. Keep that in mind. Like I said, some of the defenses are very fast and are very prone to recovering onsides. I am looking to eliminate such unfair advantages. As far as I'm concerned, the more we have skill decide these games rather than luck, the better. Yes, I say that as one of the most skilled players (allegedly) in the league, but it's Tecmo and there's enough BS built into it....anything we can do to limit the amount of BS, I see as a plus.

Someone could do it on purpose on opening Kick and say opps that was by accident. Tough because if guy has to now punt to other player, stats and time lower if it was by accident. That 1 min could cause the other player to lose some stats and time on clock, but your rule may be the only way to go where you have to punt it back if by accident. Throw in the 14 points down and 4th qt rule that would solve most of the issues.

i support this action.
if it's a rule, people will compensate for the lag and be less prone to onside kick on accident; therefore, it will be only on the rare occaision that you'll have to punt it away anyway and waste the time.

I like the ruling of punting it back unless down by 14 or 4th q. if losing.
The accidental one that has come back to me some ppl can even at-*test*-('") that I have punted it right back. Brookstone has done so for me too when we've been playing.
It defin inflates - deflates stats..

rule change I agree with this rule.

This is a good rule. Constant onside kicks are lame and I think this would improve gameplay.
Berger2313- 10-22-2007
yeah, I like the new rule too....

i think this rule steps on owners feet too much. if a guy want to kick an onside, let him kick it. its a constant risk of a 56 ms guy grabbin it and takin it to the bank. it also grants good field posi. also "accitent" is undefinable. Also, i would just short kick. same problem.
I would like to run some -*test*-('")s with the lord on it, with different teams to get accurate data before a snap judgment is made, so we have hard data. this can easily be done with two MAN utilizing the save state feature 5 seconds b4 kickoff.

I say its alright as long as you don't kick onsides EVERY SINGLE TIME, like someone I can mention, hehe.^
